My point here was to illustrate just how ridiculously horrid and racist some of the rhetoric has been within mainstream politics in this country, and just how much the facts have been warped, as well as the almost compulsive obsession with immigrants and small boats. If Nigel Farage is to be believed, people who are desperately seeking a new life, or who are simply exercising their right under the principles of the free market to find a better one, are some sort of dark, shadowy force that works solely to undermine the lives of people who already live here. It's an utterly ludicrous and hideously dangerous breed of propaganda, whose inevitable after-effects, as many of these people would happily boast, the UK fought a war as part of an alliance to end.

This is not to mention the horrendous conversation surrounding actual issues that queer people face, with them instead being themselves ~~being~~ branded as an "issue". The question "should people be allowed to exist authentically" is now seen as one of the most pressing issues of the day, a turn of events fit for a dystopia.
