John Farmer was an English composer. He wrote madrigal music.

I couldn't find a portrait of him in Wikimedia. No picture in his Wikipedia article either.

Fair Phyllis I Saw Sitting All Alone

Farmer is known for his madrigal Fair Phyllis I Saw Sitting All Alone.

Summary

Girl is feeding her sheep and then boy comes. Boy chases girl. And then boy finds girl. And then they make out. Wheeee!!!

Relations to John Lennon

Although both named John, Farmer is not related to Lennon from The Beatles. In a 1965 interview, Lennon said "I don't know who he is." In a 1600 interview, Farmer was not asked about Lennon as Lennon had not been born yet[1].

Controversies

Farmer was likely[citation needed] not a farmer despite what was literally his last name.
